If you planted wild rocket last autumn and have seen little growth so far, you might be wondering whether to give up on it now. We would suggest you hang in there a little longer – as the weather warms up now, they should, um, rocket.
No, seriously, in all likelihood they will suddenly speed up in growth as the soil warms up and as they get a bit more sunshine with longer daylight hours. The next few weeks can often be the best for wild rocket, as the sun is not so hot that the plants bolt, giving you a good spurt of leafy growth for a couple of months until June. If you want to speed this process up, try popping a cloche over the plants – you can make these very simply by cutting an old plastic bottle in half as a mini greenhouse.
