We may be preaching to the converted, but with all the talk of climate change we felt it was important to stress our point of view on the matter. Everything about growing your own, as long as you do it organically, makes sense for the planet…here are just five of the ways in which we feel it makes a difference:
- It reduces packaging and waste, particularly plastic
- It encourages pollinators and other wildlife
- It usually means you’ll end up eating more veg and less meat
- You can be sure of not negatively impacting the soil and wildlife with chemicals
- It reduces your number of food miles
This list merely touches on the surface of things, we all know there are more reasons and we could obviously go into greater detail. But we don’t need to do that, we just need to remind ourselves every so often that it’s worth battling against slugs and whitefly without using pesticides, that it doesn’t matter if your sweetcorn doesn’t look perfectly formed, and that it’s great to be able to harvest your own veg even when it’s pouring with rain. It’s helping to make this world just that little bit better.
