How to Plant Blackberries
- Plant 2m apart in full sunlight in well-draining soil, with plenty of organic matter in beds, and borders.
- If growing in pots, choose a fairly large pot with good drainage. You may need to re-pot as the plant grows.
How to Grow Blackberries
- Water well during dry periods.
- Each year add well-rotted manure to the base of the plant. This will keep them going for the whole season.
- We recommend pruning December to February.
- These will do well grown against arches or trellises or trained onto sturdy supports such as a post and wire system. This way you can create a framework of annual fruiting branches which will help to increase the yield of your plants and make picking easier.
How to Harvest Blackberries
- You should be able to harvest from August through to October by picking off the berries once they’ve turned a deep purple.
