Easy Sprouts with Orange & Garlic

This is an easy way to cook sprouts, and it is minimal effort as well – you don’t need to worry about trimming too much off each sprout or any of that jazz – just pull off a couple of the outer leaves and then chop them in half lengthways. You could easily peel and chop the sprouts and then just cook them about 10-15 mins before you want to serve up.

Ingredients

  • 2 large handfuls Brussels sprouts, halved lengthways
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled and sliced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • long rinds of 1 orange (use a veg peeler) and its juice
  • Pinch of sea salt

Method

  1. In a large non-stick frying pan, heat the olive oil on a medium heat
  2. Fry the sprouts, together with the orange rind, garlic and sea salt, for approx 6-7 minutes until they start to turn golden brown and caramelising. Shake the pan or turn occasionally with a spatula to get them cooked evenly.
  3. Once the sprouts have begun to caramelise and turn golden, add a tablespoon or two of water to the pan. It’ll create a lot of steam which will help the sprouts cook through. Once the water has fully evaporated and stopped steaming, repeat this process using the orange juice.
  4. Remove from the heat and serve.
