This is an easy way to cook sprouts, and it is minimal effort as well – you don’t need to worry about trimming too much off each sprout or any of that jazz – just pull off a couple of the outer leaves and then chop them in half lengthways. You could easily peel and chop the sprouts and then just cook them about 10-15 mins before you want to serve up.
Ingredients
- 2 large handfuls Brussels sprouts, halved lengthways
- 2 cloves garlic, peeled and sliced
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- long rinds of 1 orange (use a veg peeler) and its juice
- Pinch of sea salt
Method
- In a large non-stick frying pan, heat the olive oil on a medium heat
- Fry the sprouts, together with the orange rind, garlic and sea salt, for approx 6-7 minutes until they start to turn golden brown and caramelising. Shake the pan or turn occasionally with a spatula to get them cooked evenly.
- Once the sprouts have begun to caramelise and turn golden, add a tablespoon or two of water to the pan. It’ll create a lot of steam which will help the sprouts cook through. Once the water has fully evaporated and stopped steaming, repeat this process using the orange juice.
- Remove from the heat and serve.
