As I was busy pulling out bindweed from around my purple sprouting broccoli this afternoon, something caught my eye on one of the leaves. A little family of baby caterpillars! They were quite funny, all moving in tandem and popping their heads up to say yellow. If I hadn’t have been so protective over my two remaining broccoli plants after the pesky pigeons pecked the other 4 to death, I probably would have felt a bit guilty to wipe them off with my garden gloves. But I really do enjoy purple sprouting broccoli and I’m looking forward to eating it, so the caterpillars had to go.
