How to Plant Lemon Grass
- We’d recommend planting lemon grass in pots so that you can bring them undercover over winter.
- Alternatively, plant them into the ground under cover in a greenhouse or polytunnel so that they are protected from frost during the winter
- You can plant fairly close together to make one big clump, eg 20cm, or space a little further apart
How to Grow Lemon Grass
- Keep the plants nice and warm – they will do well on a sheltered patio for example and should be kept above approx 10c
- Keep well watered during dry spells
- Trim back to keep plants under control during the growing season
- Bring under cover during late autumn and winter – don’t put it back outside until the weather is reliably over approx 10c
How to Harvest Lemon Grass
- Harvest stalks as and when you want to use them. Great for Asian curries and stir-fries. They will freeze well too.
- Harvest the leaves to steep in boiled water for a lemony tea
