Chervil is a delicious addition to your kitchen garden. Its is an annual plant and will be happy in the cooler, shady parts of the garden.

How to Plant Chervil

  • You will get more leaves for longer if you grow chervil in partial shade. This will help to prevent it from bolting
  • Plant 20cm apart
  • Choose moisture-retentive soil

How to Grow Chervil

  • Keep them well-watered during dry spells
  • Cut back regularly to keep the plant leafy for longer
  • When it does eventually bolt, you can leave it to re-seed and it should produce several new plants for you to enjoy

How to Harvest Chervil

  • Harvest leaves as you want to use them – they have a soft aniseed flavour, great for salads or sprinkled over chicken, fish and veg. It’s good mixed with mayo too.

Is Chervil good for Companion Planting?

  • Try growing chervil alongside carrots to deter carrot root fly. It is said to repel slugs too, but so far we haven’t seen any evidence of this!
