How to Plant Honeyberries
- Choose a sunny site with fertile, well-drained soil in beds or borders.
- If growing in pots, choose a fairly large pot with good drainage. You may need to re-pot as the plant grows.
- Plant two close together (1.5m-2m apart) to aid pollination.
How to Grow Honeyberries
- The flowers usually come out in Feb/Mar time often before all our bees and other pollinators get going for the year, so by planting in pairs you increase chances of wind pollination.
- If you only have one, you may choose to hand pollinate when the plant is in flower. You can do this by dabbing from flower to flower with a child’s paintbrush!
- Keep the soil moist throughout the first growing season. In later years, water thoroughly on a weekly basis during prolonged dry spells.
- Keep them weed-free and apply an annual mulch.
- Remove dead/damaged branches after fruiting in the first 2-3 years. Thereafter, no pruning is required
How to Harvest Honeyberries
- Fruits will ripen for harvesting in the summer from July through to August.
