As spring approaches it’s time to think about your planting plan for the season ahead. Here’s a quick guide to get you started.
MID FEB – MID APRIL
Try and get garlic, onion and shallot sets in the ground before mid-March. In late March/April, plant up Jerusalem Artichokes. Plant Asparagus Crowns and Horseradish any time between late March and mid May. Seed potatoes are best planted in April (but start chitting them now). Meanwhile, prepare beds for planting all your other veggies.
LATE APRIL – EARLY JUNE
This is the best time to get the majority of your veggies going for the summer season as most frost risk is over, the soil is warmer and it’s easier for your plants to thrive. Be sure to keep your veg plants well watered and protected from pests while they are young and vulnerable.
MID JUNE – LATE JULY
Order a few extra plug plants now to pop in any gaps that appear in your plot. It’s a good time to plant brassicas for an autumn/winter harvest. You can also plant plenty of carrots, beetroots and even potatoes for a Christmas crop.
AUGUST – MID OCTOBER
This is the time to plant veg that you will harvest over the winter months. There are all sorts of winter lettuces and leaves, as well as kales that you can plant. Keep an eye out for our Autumn Catalogue…
